British Cycling and Sky.

After a couple of months of training and planning. I have now gained a qualification as a British Cycling level 2 Ride Leader and British Cycling Route Planner status. I have just had 3 of my routes adopted by Sky rides for this year. They are The White Bear Ride, The Camer Classic and The Pilgrims Way. They are all on our doorstep, and we have been along these roads many times, so I think of them more of our own work, routes that belong to our Club. The White Bear a short ride just under 10 miles. The Camer Classic, starting and finishing at Daffs 12 miles, and The Pilgrims Way starting at Lullingstone and going out to Westerham and back 22 miles. These rides all take part on Sunday afternoons 2.00 pm start.
Each route took at least 3 days of planning, with risk assessments, ride photos, ride information pack, and mapping, rides will be led by BC coaches and ride leaders, with a ratio of 8 to 1.
So if you fancy any of these local rides, log onto

AGM Report.

We covered quite a few points last night and the outcome was positive.

The Committee has changed slightly, with the addition of some extra positions.

Chair.  Graham Hiscock
Club Secretary. (NEW POST)  Gary Layton
Membership Secretary. Steve Neale, with Bill Alder (membership cards)
Treasurer. Ross Walters
Cyclo Cross . (NEW POST) Kevin Perkins
Time Trials. Under Review
Group Leaders,  Graham Hiscock, Peter Corbett. Roy Knight,
Gary Layton, Bill Alder (NEW POST)

Club Subs. The Subs are now due for the 2010 season, and remain at £20. People who have recently paid within the last 2 months, we will start your membership from now. We are updating our membership database, as we still have members without contact details. A new online form will be up and running soon to update your details. We are introducing a new membership card, which will include your photo, and I.C.E number. I.C.E is In Case of Emergency number. British Cycling are looking to introduce this system over the next few years.  It makes sense to carry this card on your training rides.

With the additional Group leaders mow, we can move forward and offer a better spread of training rides, both distance and ability.

We have decided to re run the Reliability Trial again. This to be run at the end of the upcoming season 2010, and will probably be a Sunday in late February or early March.  Date will be announced soon.

Spring Tour 2010, Dieppe France. We will start taking down names for The Tour very soon. The booking will be made in January. It was decided that payment will be needed to secure your place on the trip. There will be a cut off date, if you do not pay by this date, your place cannot be reserved.
The reason behind this, as raised in the AGM. Bookings are made by credit card, which gives  about 30 days to pay, if we run over this date we incur interest charges, which the club has to pay for.

Club Kit. We have agreed on  a design for a Summer Cycle top. This is not meant as a replacement on our present kit. The colours match and work well with our existing shorts etc. Should be available for next Spring.
Club Kit orders. The cost of ordering kit is very restricted by Club funds. There is a minimum order of 10 items from the manufacturer ( this is standard practice). So for example 10 tops =£400, 10 shorts = £450. So an order of tops and shorts  £850 would almost clear out the Club funds . I know it can be frustrating, when for example someone wants a specific size pair of shorts and would like them ordered. What this would mean, would be an order of £450, for 1 person, then the rest of the kit would go as stock. It wouldn’t be long before Club funds are gone. There has been a lot of interest in Winter jackets, Gilets and overshoes. All I can say we will need at least 10 orders of each before we can place an order.
Future payments on Kit, will need a 50% deposit with your order, then the balance due when the kit arrives, usually 4 weeks turn round.

Turbo Training
Will start on 7th January 2010, in conjunction with White Oak Tri Squad, for 12 weeks

Gravesend Cycle Park gets the go ahead.

The long awaited planning permission has been granted for the new Cycle Park, along the old A2 at Singlewell. As well as a tarmac, traffic free road circuit of 3 miles, which will be open for all to use, there is a bmx circuit, leisure riding paths, and a new restaurant.

Princes Park

I attended a meeting at Princes Park with Bill Archer and Dave Skinner about the continued use of the Club, by Seeds Cycling.
Issued had been raised about use of the car park on match days. Because of the situation caught on CCTV footage of cars arriving on Saturday mornings, with bikes being unloaded and cars being left until 2 pm, Dartford FC staff were puzzled, about who we were! Unfortunately  Dartford Football Club, who now run the facility, were not aware of a Cycling Club being based at Princes. We originally had permission from the council to use Princes Park, but this information was never passed on to Dartford FC.
Anyway the outcome is.
If you bring cars.
On Saturday match days, we must be clear of the car park by 1.30 pm
If you cycle, not a problem.
Sundays.
If you bring a car, please park in the overflow car park, (non Tarmac). This will allow Dartford FC football training staff and players, to have full use of the car park.
Again if you cycle, not a problem, but please meet by the bike stands, under the balcony, this to keep the access road clear.
Dartford F.C. are now up to speed with our Club, and have no problems with our continued use of Princes Park (as per notes above)
We are  invited to make full use of the bar area, for food and drinks.
I also raised the question of staging a Seeds Cycling,  Reliability Trial from Princes, this Winter.
They are happy for us to set up a ride, (dates permitting), with full use of the overflow car park, up to 200 cars, and also the bar area, for food and drinks.
I am currently talking to British Cycling about setting up an event.
