The Silent Heroes !

Paul Atkinson and Kevin Perkins are off to Austria to do the Karntem Ironman Austria Triathlon on the 13th July. The event starts with a 2.4 mile lake swim, followed by a 2 lap bike route each lap 90 km, total of 112 miles, then to finish with a full marathon of 26.2 miles a 2 lap route around the town of Klagenfurt.

They never talk about their high level intense training, that takes over your life for months, but you know, we know !

Both are now tapering down their training, as the event gets closer.

To get to this event, they have put in endless hours on their bikes, pounding the lanes of Kent and Surrey, on their own, in all weathers, giving up the weekend lay ins, to clock up the mileage that is needed to compete at such an event. Then when they have cycled for 4 hours, get home and put your trainers on and go for an hours run.

I am sure all of us at the Club can get a sense of the challenge the lads are taking on, we all know after doing a 100 mile bike ride alone, can leave you exhausted.

So we take our hats off, to Paul and Kevin, and wish them well in the Ironman.
