Most memorable to date. The first time I went under 3.50 for the London marathon, after several attempts. Close second, that’s still painful to remember, doing London Brighton, then cycling back home, 12 hours in the saddle.
Bikes Started with an Apollo, then a Carrera, then a Nigel Dean, Winter bike, Ribble Ultegra 9 speed , Best bike Pinerello F4/13 carbon, 10 speed Campag Chorus. TT bike Ribble Scandium, Head Stinger wheels.
Riding style, Turns over big gears, steady pace rider, likes the longer rides. Good on route finding, hence the nic name. Weaknesses. Heavy rider, and not a good climber, but great going down hill.
Crashes, 2002 Fall along Hawley road, at 25 mph. Seemed to lose control of steering, may have hit something on road, couldn’t remember much about it. Broken ball socket on left shoulder, hit head on kerb, saw stars, helmet saved my life, face injury, nerve damage. Bike damage, write off. 2007, collision with Calamity James on Green St Green. Cuts and bruises.
