SUNDAY AUGUST 3RD. Please keep this date free for a charity training ride, to help the fund, for The Myelin Project. All money raised on the day will go directly to Myelin Project. www.myelinproject.co.uk
Matt and Colette Swift were both members of White Oak Tri Squad and are both top class cyclists. In October 2006 their young son Joseph was diagnosed with Aicardi Goutieres Syndrome, please take time to read the website.
Please follow this link to the WebSite , to read all about this brave young boy and his parents Matt and Colette, and perhaps we can all play some part in helping, by cycling for Joseph, on the 3rd of August 2008.
We are hoping to get as many local clubs and riders involved as possible.
A Big thank you to all who took part in the Ride4Joe today, we managed to raise £350 for The Myelin Project. We had over 50 riders out today. Clubs putting out big teams were, Old Ports C.C. White Oak Tri Squad, Crystal Palace Tri and Seeds Cycling Club, and also the individuals who turned up to take part, sorry we didn't get your Club or personal names, but thanks for being there.
The weather for today was not the best, wet roads and some light showers. The route for the first 15 miles wasn't that bad, it was not until Ightham that we started hitting the climbs. We had a few problems with route directions today, around Stone Street, Penshurst, and Edenbridge, (sorry for that Everyone). Nobody seemed to ride under distance, with only a handful hitting the correct distance of 62 miles. I think some were as high as 68 miles ! Ashdown lived up to its name, with some big climbs at Fordcombe, Hartfield and on the way back to Edenbridge. Last big climbs of the day, Toys or Ide Hill. With a little sting in the tail the climb of Old Hill, took us back to the finish at High Elms.
The ride will start at High Elms Country Park, lower car park, High Elms Road, off Shire Lane, Orpington. There is car parking and a Cafe at the park. Additional parking is available in the top car park, 0.7 miles up High Elms Road, past golf coarse and clock tower on left. Start time will be 9 am, although there will be someone at the start from 8.30am to 9.30am. to take donations and give out route plans. If you wish to start early it is not a problem. The long route is 100k / 62 miles long, an undulating route out to Ashdown and back. The Shorter route is 50k / 31 miles long and shares the same route as the longer ride for the 1st 13 miles. Depending on numbers, groups will be sent off in 5 to 10 riders. Donations to the Myelin Project Uk can be made on the day.
To join the ride pick up your route plan, make a donation and off you go.
